SLAUGHTER NETS 1,000TH CAREER POINT, CHARGERS FIND SUCCESS IN SEWARD

Box Score The #23 Briar Cliff women's basketball team found success in Seward, Nebraska Wednesday with a tight 56-51 win at Concordia. The Chargers improve to 20-7 and 16-5 in conference play.

With her nine points in tonight's contest, Payton Slaughter became the 37th member of the BC 1,000-point club.

The Chargers trailed by six after 10 minutes of action, despite forcing six Bulldog turnovers. The Chargers closed the gap early in the second quarter as they held Concordia to 23.1% shooting from the field. The Chargers worked their way back into the game by knocking down 7-of-8 free throw attempts while Concordia attempted zero in the quarter.

With 8:22 left in the third quarter, Payton Slaughter netted her 1,000th career point on a deep 3-point basket, assisted by Konnor Sudmann. Slaughter became the 37th member of the BC 1,000-point club and joins Sudmann who surpassed the mark earlier this season in the Chargers' first meeting with Hastings.

The fourth quarter was all Briar Cliff as they shot 42.9% from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 at the charity stripe compared to Concordia's 15.4% from the floor. Konnor Sudmann turned on the jets in the final 10 minutes as she scored 12 of the Chargers' 18 points in the quarter on 5-of-7 shooting.

The Charger defense held strong as they kept the GPAC's second-leading scoring team to 51 points. This marks the second lowest point total given up by BC in conference play. BC also held the Bulldogs to 11 shot attempts below their season average.

Briar Cliff held the advantage in rebounds (44-39) and points off turnovers (22-9).

Konnor Sudmann paced the way for the Chargers, scoring 27 points and gathering eight rebounds to go with two steals and an assist. Payton Slaughter recorded nine points, seven rebounds and two steals Madelyn Deitcher had a game-high 13 rebounds and scored seven points. Kennedy Benne and Peyton Wingert added eight and seven points, respectively.

The Charger women will return to action this Saturday as they travel to Crete, Nebraska to take on the Tigers of Doane at 2 p.m.
