The Chargers extended their winning streak to four after topping the Ottawa Braves 91-60, Thursday night in Ottawa, Kansas.
Briar Cliff began the game with an 8-1 run following Mallie McNair's basket. The Braves took an 11-10 lead with one minute remaining in the quarter following a Jayla Johnson free-throw. The Charger's Payton Slaughter recorded a steal and dished it to Makenna Kleinhesselink to regain the lead shortly after.
Early in the second quarter, Briar Cliff led by 15 following a basket from Kennedy Benne. McNair scored seven points from the paint and from behind the arc during the run. The Chargers drew eight fouls in the quarter, and the Chargers capitalized, going 11-14 on the line. The Chargers took a 42-32 lead to end the first half.
BCU outscored Ottawa 48-28 in the second half and led wire-to-wire, leading to the 91-60 win. Briar Cliff shot 38% from the field and 84.6% from the charity stripe. The Cliff scored 22 points off turnovers and were able to keep the Braves off the boards, out-rebounding them 65-35.
McNair led the Chargers in points, putting up 32 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Slaughter recorded her second straight double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 16 rebounds with seven steals. Rachel Langel put up 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Grace Flanagan finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
The Chargers will return to action with their GPAC opener Wednesday night, as they take on the Midland Warriors in Fremont, Nebraska. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
