The Briar Cliff men's soccer won their fifth straight decision Wednesday night, 2-0 over Morningside at Elwood Olsen Stadium. With the win the Chargers move to 10-2-1 (7-0-1 GPAC) and are a perfect 7-0 on the road.
"It's always a big game when you play Morningside, it was a cagey and difficult game but we took our chances when they came and defended really well as a team," said head coach Teren Schuster. "It was a professional performance and I'm proud of the boys for it. We'll have a day or two off before we get back to work for Wednesday."
Briar Cliff broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 37
th minute on a Morningside own goal.
Pablo Garcia-Pola Coppen curled in a corner kick and after bouncing off a Morningside player, found the back of the net to give the Chargers the lead.
Hjalmar Nilsson made a pair of saves in the first 45 minutes to keep the Mustangs off the scoreboard.
Coppen played a part of the second BC goal in the 49
th minute as he assisted on a
Hugo Mariage goal. The Charger insurance goal was set up by a cross from Coppen for a header goal from Mariage.
Nilsson recorded his second clean sheet of the season with nine saves, and BC's third overall. He has allowed just two goals in his last four games in net.
Mariage led the Cliff with two shots on goal while five other Chargers put a shot on goal.
The Mustangs were awarded two more corner kicks (9-7) and had two more shots on goal (9-7) than the Chargers.
Briar Cliff remains undefeated on the road and have outscored opponents 30-8.
The Chargers will return to the pitch in a week when they host Concordia at 1:00 p.m. on Faber Field.
