Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

CHARGERS FALL ON THE ROAD TO MIDLAND

The Briar Cliff men's basketball comeback effort fell short Wednesday night in Fremont, Nebraska as the Chargers fell 73-84 to Midland.

"Inconsistency plagued us tonight. We were out coached and out played," said head coach Mark Svagera. "I like the fight out group in at the end played with but you can't put yourself in a 25 point hole and expect to win in this league."

The Chargers trailed 28-35 at halftime after shooting 38.7% from the field and 4-of-16 from the 3-point line. Midland shot just 41.2% from the floor but were able to connect on five 3-point baskets. The Chargers were able to score 16 points in the paint in the opening 20 minutes, while Midland scored seven off turnovers and eight on second chance opportunities.

The lead changed hands on five occasions and the lead stayed within single digits through the first 20 minutes. However, it was the Warriors who closed out the half strong going on a 10-0 run.

Midland carried that momentum into the second half, as they built up their largest lead of the night (25) with 11:05 left. The Chargers made a final push at the Warriors, cutting their lead to eight with 3:38 remaining after back-to-back 3-pointers from Nick Hoyt and Quinn Vesey. Midland matched the Chargers scoring to close the game and went 3-for-4 at the free throw line in the final minute of play.

The Chargers made 12-of-34 attempts from beyond the arc, marking the 12th time they've made 10 or more this season.

Briar Cliff held an 18-to-9 assist-to-turnover ratio but lost the rebounding battle 30-47. The BC bench, led by Conner Groves' 13 points, scored 28 in the contest.

Vesey totaled 17 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals. Nick Hoyt added 10 points, while Tyrus Eischeid had eight points, with two 3-pointers and two rebounds.

The Chargers will return to Ray Nacke Court this Saturday for a meeting with Dakota Wesleyan at 3:45 p.m.
