The Briar Cliff volleyball dropped a pair of games Tuesday in Ottawa, Kansas. The Chargers fell against Kansas Wesleyan (22-25, 19-25, 12-25) to start the day and against Ottawa (18-25, 13-25, 12-25) to end the night.

"Kansas Wesleyan is a good serving and defensive team, which made it difficult for us to terminate the ball tonight," said Weatherford.

The Chargers battled in the first two sets, recording hitting percentages of .326 and .375. BC grabbed an early 12-7 lead, but a 5-0 Coyote run brought the score to a tie. A kill by

Toria Andre gave the Cliff a 16-15 advantage. Kansas Wesleyan took control of the set with a 5-0 run, taking set one 25-22.Â

After a back-and-forth start to set two, a five-point followed by a four-point run gave the Coyotes a 21-14 lead. The Chargers and Coyotes tallied matching .375 hitting percentages in the second set. BC struggled to gain momentum in the final set and fell 12-25.Â

Chloe Johnson led the Cliff with 11 kills and 14 digs.
Toria Andre notched a .467 hitting percentage with nine kills.
Sami Wasmund totald three blocks, while
Emma Porter recorded 30 assists.Â

In match two of the night, the Chargers fell behind 6-13 to Ottawa. BC stayed within six points of the Braves but couldn't mount the comeback falling 18-25. The Braves took early control of sets two and three with a 7-2 and 8-2 run, respectively.Â

Alexis Johnson totaled seven kills with one block. Wasmund tallied three kills and three blocks. Porter dished out 16 assists.

Jaice Johnsen and
Chloe Johnson each recorded 14 blocks.Â

"Ottawa was taller than other teams we have seen recently, it was hard for us to defend them tonight," said head coach
Lindsey Weatherford. "Our serve-receive broke down tonight and we struggled to stay in system."

The Chargers will face Haskell Indian Nations tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Lawrence, Kansas.
