BC falls on the road to DSU

The Charger softball team traveled to Madison, South Dakota for a doubleheader against Dakota State Tuesday. BC dropped game one 5-2, and lost game two 4-1 after the game was called due to the weather.

Game 1 – L, 5-2 

The Trojans scored the contest's first run in the bottom of the third. Madison Aldenfiner reached base on a fielder's choice, allowing Carrington Entringer to cross home plate to give DSU a 1-0 lead. Michelle Evdos followed up with an RBI triple to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead.  

In the top of the fourth, BC got into scoring position after back-to-back base hits by Sydney Lierman and Kennedy AndersenAubrey Chichurka laid down a sacrifice bunt to move runners to second and third with one out. Georgia Krohn hit an RBI single to left field and BC trailed 2-1. DSU got out of the jam after throwing out Andersen at home and forcing a pop out the next at-bat to end the inning.   

In the top of the fifth, Kylee Lukes drew a walk for the Chargers with one out. Alexis Westercamp in the next at-bat hit an RBI double down the left field line, driving in Lukes to tie the game 2-2.

DSU's offense scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, led by Xotchil Lopez's two RBI single to give the Trojans a 5-2 lead heading into the final inning. 

The Chargers were unable to rally in the seventh, falling in order and dropping game one 5-2. 

BC tallied eight hits, with seven different chargers recording at least one. Lukes led the offense going 2-for-3 at the plate while drawing a walk and scoring a run. Westercamp and Krohn both tallied one RBI in the contest. 

Game 2 – L, 4-1 (5 innings) 

BC's Karina Cupples led off the top of the first with a single, and advanced to second off a wild pitch. Lukes during her plate appearance singled to center field, and the Chargers had runners at first and third with no outs. Lierman reached first on a fielder's choice, driving in Cupples to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. 

Dakota State, in the bottom of the second, tied the game 1-1 after Sarah Torres' RBI single. 

The Trojans took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth after Lia Chan's RBI single drove in Rosie Philop. 

DSU added two runs in the bottom of the fourth, after Lopez hit a sacrifice fly, and Evdos RBI single gave the Trojans a 4-1 lead. 

The Chargers, in the top of the fifth, looked to put runs on the board, as Cupples and Lierman were on second and third with two outs. Andersen flew out to right field, ending the inning and the Cliff left two runners on base. 

The contest concluded after the top of the fifth due to lightning in the weather forecast. 

Lukes and Cupples both went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Chargers. Lierman went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Brooke Masi and Westercamp also recorded a hit for the Chargers. 

The Chargers move to 17-14 overall (7-5 GPAC) and return to Bishop Mueller Field to take on Northwestern Wednesday April 20th. Game one is designated for 3 p.m. with game two to follow.
