The Briar Cliff baseball team traveled to Sioux Center, Iowa Monday night and split the doubleheader with Dordt 1-1. After falling in game one, the Charger bats found their rhythm in game two, scoring nine runs in the win.

Game 1 – L, 1-8

Cam Riemer quickly scored in the first inning to give the Cliff a 1-0 lead. After an infield single, Riemer stole second and then advanced to third on an error by the pitcher.
Jake Allen was called out at first on a dropped third strike, but the play allowed Riemer to cross home plate.

The BC bats managed just one more hit in the contest and zero runs in the contest. Dordt put up four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a commanding  lead. They added two insurance runs in the second and fifth innings.Â

Rylan Aamold is tagged with the loss after going 2.0 innings, giving up two earned runs (six total) with two strikeouts.
Tyler Kjose worked 3.0 innings out of the bullpen and
Alex Kremer threw one inning.

Game 2 – W, 9-7
Â
Walter Hunt drove in the first run of the game in the top of the first. Dordt scored six unanswered runs over the next three innings and took a 6-1 edge.Â

The Charger offense exploded for eight runs in the top of the fifth to retake the lead 9-6.
Connor Lange singled to get the scoring started, driving in
Matthew Hmielewski who got into scoring position after stealing second. Three straight doubles from Riemer, Hunt and
Mike Anthony drove in three runs. With the bases loaded and two outs, Lange cleared the bases by reaching first off an error from the right fielder.

Dordt managed a run in the bottom of the seventh, but
Austin Carter closed out the game two win by forcing a lineout.Â

Carter earns the win after throwing 4.1 innings in relief. He struck out eight batters while allowing four hits and two runs (one earned).
Ryan Riddle started on the mound and went 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.

Hunt went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run. Anthony reached base twice, drove in two runs and scored once. Hmielewski and Riemer each scored twice. Six Chargers tallied a stolen base and three legged out a double.

BC moves to 16-8 on the season and 6-2 against GPAC foes. They will head to Orange City, Iowa on Friday for a doubleheader with Northwestern at 5 and 7:30 p.m.
