The Briar Cliff Baseball team scored 24 runs in two games to take the series 3-1 against Presentation at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Cam Reimer and
Jake Allen combined for three home runs and nine RBIs on the day.
"It was a great experience for the guys this weekend," said head coach
Corby McGlauflin. "Every guy on the trip made an appearance in the box scores. We have one final tune up Wednesday before GPAC play is here."
Game 1 - W, 10-3
The Chargers were off to a hot start, scoring four runs in the second inning.
Trevor Adler got the scoring going early with a single to drive in
Mike Anthony.
Matthew Hmielewski would later single to drive in Adler.
Trey Rogers then doubled to drive in Hmielewski and was followed by a
Connor Lange RBI single.
Presentation closed the gap in the bottom of the fifth, scoring thee runs to trail by one. In the top of the sixth, the Charger scored four runs powered by back-to-back homers from Riemer and Allen to give them a 8-3 lead. Rogers capped off the scoring in the top of the seventh with a single that drove in two hit and the Chargers rolled to a 10-3 victory.
Rylan Aamold went 4.1 innings for the Chargers, surrendering four hits and giving up three earned runs while striking out six. Rogers was 2-for-4 with four RBIs in the contest.
Game 2 - W, 14-6
The Chargers again started off strong, scoring 13 runs in the first two innings. Riemer got the Cliff on the board early with a two-run shot to take a 2-0 lead. In his next-at-bat, Riember notched a double, driving in two more runs. In the bottom of the second, Lange followed up with a double and two RBIs of his own.
In the top of the seventh, Presentation looked to rally back, scoring two runs close the lead to 14-6. With one out in the inning,
Brett Sitzmann came in relief for the Chargers, and struck out one batter and forced a fly-out to preserve the 14-6 victory.
Reimer went 3-for-4 with six RBis followed by Rogers' 1-for-3 and three runs. Reimer, Lange, Allen, and
Peyton Grant tallied extra-base hits for the Chargers.
Tyler Kjose went 4.0 innings and recorded four strikeouts for the Cliff.
The Chargers improved to 9-6 overall and will return to action against Dakota State on March 16 for a doubleheader in Madison, South Dakota. First pitch is set for 2:00PM with game two shortly after.
