The RV Briar Cliff women's basketball team took control in the second quarter of the first installment of the River City Rivalry Wednesday night. The Chargers outscored #25 Morningside 30-6 in the second period as they cruised to a 76-54 win.

It was a slow start for both teams, as the scoreboard read 6-4 five minutes into the contest. The Mustangs held the advantage throughout the first quarter until a 3-pointer from
Madisyn Rogan tied the game at 11 at the end of the period.

The Chargers shined on both sides of the ball in the second quarter, putting up 30 points and holding the Mustangs to six in the 10-minute quarter. After a Mustang bucket early in the quarter, BC held them scoreless for over six minutes of play. BC forced 11 Mustang turnovers with seven steals and scored 21 points off turnovers.

Kennedy Benne poured in 10 points with three triples, while
Madelyn Deitchler had eight points and four rebounds.

Payton Slaughter was all over the court in the second period, tallying two points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals in eight minutes of floor time. Slaughter closed out the half by corralling a rebound and knocking down a mid-range jumper as time expired.

Looking to build off their first half momentum, the Chargers extended their lead to 29 points after back-to-back
Konnor Sudmann 3-pointers. Sudmann poured in 12 points in the quarter on 3-of-5 shooting and connected on 4-of-7 from the charity stripe.

BC took their largest lead of the night in the fourth quarter (32) after a
Peyton Wingert and-1. The Chargers held onto a 20+ point advantage throughout the fourth quarter on their way to a 22 point win.

Benne totaled 20 points, three steals and four triples. Sudmann added 18 points, four assists and three boards.

Deitchler posted her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 boards. Slaughter chipped in six points, five steals, five assists and four rebounds.

The Chargers will look to pick up their fifth GPAC win Saturday when the team hosts Midland at 2 p.m. in the Newman Flanagan Center.
