STRONG SECOND HALF LEADS RV CHARGERS PAST LANCERS

Trailing by one point at halftime, the RV Briar Cliff women's basketball team put together a strong second half to grab their second GPAC win of the season. The Chargers poured in 22 points in the third quarter and held Mount Marty to 3-of-15 shooting in the fourth quarter, as they won 64-54 Wednesday.
 
Konnor Sudmann paced the Cliff with a new season high 28 points on 9-of-19 shooting. She added three rebounds and four steals while going 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
 
In a defensive heavy first quarter the two teams combined to shoot 9-for-32 from the field and 1-for-15 from deep. BC held a 13-8 lead after 10 minutes of play.
 
Sudmann scored 10 of BC's 15 second quarter points, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers. However, the Chargers would shoot 33.3% from the field, while the Lancers found the range from deep, knocking down three 3-pointers and shot 60.0% from the field.
 
The Blue and Gold gained the lead early in the third quarter, after a 3-pointer from Kennedy Benne and held onto the advantage from the remaining 18 minutes. Benne and Madelyn Deitchler led the way in the third with seven and six points, respectively as the Chargers outscored Mount Marty 22-18.
 
Briar Cliff's defense buckled down in the final quarter, holding the Lancers to 20.0% shooting and 1-for-3 from deep. Sudmann scored nine points in the period and closed it out by connecting on four free throws in the final 30 seconds of play.
 
The Cliff converted 17-of-24 attempts from the free throw line and shot 34.4% from the floor. They tallied 10 steals on the night and forced 19 Lancer turnovers. The Chargers took advantage of the Lancer errors, scoring 28 points off turnovers.
 
Deitchler had eight points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Benne chipped in 13 points. Peyton Wingert had seven points and five boards. Payton Slaughter added five points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
 
Next on the schedule is an exhibition contest against NCAA DII Augustana Saturday at 3 p.m. in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Chargers return to GPAC play next Tuesday in the Newman Flanagan Center against Dordt.
