Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

CHARGERS FALL IN STRAIGHT SETS TO #2 JAMESTOWN

The Charger volleyball team dropped their road contest to #2 Jamestown Saturday afternoon. The Cliff fell in straight sets 22-25, 13-25, and 17-25.

"This is the best showing that our team has made at Jamestown University in the last three years," said head coach I was proud of our effort defensively; we out blocked them which is something we take pride in."

The Cliff and Jimmies were tied 19-19 near the end of set one, until Jamestown used a three-point run to lead 22-19. The Chargers reached within one after a Jamestown error, followed by a Chloe Johnson kill. However, Jamestown would capitalize on a Chargers attack error, capping off set one 25-22 with a service ace by Kalli Hegerle.

Set two saw the Jimmies take a 12-5 lead powered by an 8-0 run. BCU would cut the lead within four after a Tannah Heath ace, but the Jimmies would outscore the Chargers 12-3 to take set two 25-13.  Toria Andre and Sami Wasmund led the Chargers with two kills in the set.

The Chargers led set three 11-8 after three straight attacking errors by the Jimmies. Filimaua Afatia provided a boost off the bench and recorded four kills in the set. Jamestown led by as many as eight during the set and outscored the Cliff 9-4 in the last half of play to take set three 25-17.

"Olivia did a great job lining up blocks to place others in successful positions, while Sami continues to be a very consistent blocker for our team," said Weatherford.

The Chargers were led by Johnson's eight kills followed by Andre's five. Wasmund and Olivia Petersen recorded five and four blocks, respectively. Tannah Heath paced the Chargers with 18 assists, while Abbey Jones recorded 13 digs.  Heath, Jones and Jaice Johnsen all recorded one service ace.

"Chloe has also been consistent down the stretch, her eight digs, with six in the first set, helped us today in the back row," noted Weatherford. "Afatia has been a spark off the bench that has helped us as of late. Today hitting .500 put us in a good position to go on a run in set three."

Jamestown was led by Anna Holen's 13 kills, three aces, and two blocks. Hegerle added 12 kills to go with her 19 assists and 15 digs.

The Chargers return home for the season finale against Northwestern next Tuesday in the Newman Flanagan Center at 7:30 p.m.
