Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Charger volleyball clipped by #3 Warriors

The Briar Cliff volleyball team fell in straight sets to #3 Midland Saturday in Fremont, Nebraska. It was the Chargers' fourth straight game against a team ranked or receiving votes in the top-25 poll, and fifth out of their last six games.

"Our team came out ready to play Midland, and even though they are a highly ranked team in the NAIA we kept pushing them through the first part of each set," said head coach Lindsey Weatherford. "We stayed with them much better than we have against teams in our league recently. We out blocked them, which is something we have really worked on over the course of this week and I thought our blocking game was led by our middles Sami Wasmund and Toria Andre who had great matchups going up all day and were a problem for midlands middles and hitters."

The Chargers started strong in each set, holding early leads in the first and second sets. However, the Warriors would pull away each time with extended runs.

Alexis Johnson and Wasmund combined for a pair of early blocks in set one, as the Cliff trailed 6-7. The Warriors' Hope Leimback would hold serve for the next nine points, as Midland took control of set one.

BC again came out swinging in set two, taking a 5-2 lead after another Wasmund and Alexis Johnson block. The Warriors pulled away with a 10-1 scoring run taking set two 25-13 and set three 25-11.

Chloe Johnson had a team high seven kills and seven digs. Alexis Johnson had two kills and five blocks, while Andre had four kills and five blocks. Wasmund totaled two kills, two digs and three blocks.

Tannah Heath had 11 assists and two digs, while Abbey Jones had seven digs. Avery Beller totaled three digs and one service ace.

The Chargers return to the Newman Flanagan Center next Friday for a meeting with #18 College of Saint Mary. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. between the Chargers and Flames.
