The men's and women's golf teams wrapped up the Northwest Iowa National Invite Tuesday with the final 18 holes of a 54-hole marathon. Weather cooperated on Tuesday with a cool morning and started to warm up nicely into the 70s with a cool northwest wind.
The ladies started the final round in sixth place after scores of 331 and 328 in the first two rounds. The third round was a different story, as the team finished with a season best score of 312 (+24).
"It wasn't like we caught fire or anything, we just got into a solid rhythm and executed the way I know we can," said Coach
Ben Irlbeck. "Best of all, we finished the round off with a great stretch of good golf."
Frankie Valencia continued to lead the team with a five over round of 77. Carding four birdies in her final round, and 11 on the tournament, which led all GPAC players. Her final score of +17 placed her in a tie for 20
th.
Molly Diekmann played her most consistent golf of the season, following up her Monday scores with a +6 performance of 78. Her final placing was 26th.
"Molly and Frankie have really stepped into the driver seat this fall and rallied the troops," said Irlbeck. "I'm looking forward to their performances at conference in two weeks."
Helene Getz Bergmo had her best round of the season carding a 77. She finished tied for 30th overall with a three-day total of 247.
Emily Harste and
Abbigale Miller rounded out the scoring with an 85 and 80, respectively. Harste finished 33rd with her score of 257 and Miller palced 34th with a 260.
Texas Wesleyan University won the overall women's championship with a score of 855, besting Ottawa University by 43 shots. Malisone Chanthapanya won the individual championship by 13 shots with a score of 205.
The next event for the Lady Chargers is the GPAC Fall Conference Championship hosted at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion, SD on October 4 and 5.

"Our play wasn't quite as consistent today as the previous couple tournament rounds," said Irlbeck. "We started off a bit slow, and never really rebounded."
Shaunak Rama continues to lead the Chargers with a final round of 72, placing him in an tie for 16
th place with a final score of 218. His final round consisted of three birdies and an eagle on the 9
th hole.
Mason Collins posted the next best score for the Chargers. He finished with a 72 on Tuesday and an overall placing of 36
th with his score of 224. Freshman
Gregorio Fernandez posted a three-round score of 227 and edged
Andrew Arndorfer by one stroke. Fernandez closed with a 77 and tied for 47th, while Arndorfer carded a 78 and finished tied for 52nd.
Desmond Landin carded a 79 in his final round and had a final score of 231.
"We are a young team that needs to continue to gain confidence and experience. When everything clicks, we will have something very special," said Irlbeck
Winning the tournament was Bellevue University with a score of 853 (-11). Individually, Sam Storey from Morningside won with on overall score of 206 (-10).
The Charger men will next compete in the fall portion of the GPAC Championships at Indian Creek GC, in Elkhorn, NE next Monday and Tuesday.
