A blistering hitting percentage and 10 kills from
Toria Andre, plus 11 kills from
Abbie Ericson and 10 from
Chloe Johnson pushed the BC volleyball team past Clarke Friday at the Newman Flanagan Center. The team hosts the Charger Invite this weekend on its home court.
Andre had no attack errors on the night on 16 attempts, putting her swing rate a .625. BC's other middle,
Sami Wasmund, also had a big night, putting down seven kills on 13 attempts with no errors for a .538 clip. The sophomore duo led all players at the net.
"Toria and Sami were outstanding for us tonight," said head coach
Lindsey Weatherford. "They played like upperclassmen and were a huge spark."
The Chargers have a number of positives to take from night two of the 2021 campaign. BC tallied seven services aces, three coming from Wasmund, and had nine total blocks.
After going down 4-0 to start the match, strong serving from
Abbey Jones helped the Cliff back to a 5-4 lead.
Tannah Heath held serve for six straight points in set two.
BC won sets one and two before faltering in set three. The Chargers refocused for game four to put the Clarke Pride away.
Heath led the Charger defense with 12 digs. She also had two ace serves.
Jo Sadler also notched double digit digs with 10.
The Chargers will get back on the court Saturday for day two of the Charger Invite. BC will take on Waldorf at 1 p.m. and Northwestern in a nonconference matchup at 5 p.m.
