Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Shuttleworth tallies brace to lead Chargers to GPAC semifinal

Hannah Shuttleworth had her first career multi-goal game and Taylor Hill and Ariana Rodriguez added a goal each to help the Briar Cliff women's soccer team cruise past Dordt 4-1 in the opening round of the GPAC Postseason Tournament Saturday at Memorial Field.

The Charger women are now 12-1-2 on the season and will take on Jamestown Tuesday in the semifinal round of the tournament. That game will kick off at 1 p.m. at Memorial Field in Sioux City.

Sonja Rao connected with Hil in the 12th minute of the contest, who curled the ball around the Dordt goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead. That goal was the difference between the sides at the halftime break.

Shuttleworth broke the game open for the Chargers with back-to-back goals in the 60th and 67th minutes, assisted by Rodriguez and Kenna Larosee, respectively. Shuttleworth only had two shots in the game, both of which resulted in scores for the Cliff.

Alaina VanZalen put one goal back for the Defenders late, capitalizing on a defensive error by the Chargers with four minutes to play.

The Chargers dominated all aspects of the game, holding a 10-4 advantage in shots and 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.

In addition to Shuttleworth's shots, Rodriguez, Hill and Mariana Ocegueda had two shots each. Ruby Campa made one save during her 90 minutes in goal.

The Defenders end their season at 6-8-2 overall.
