The Briar Cliff volleyball team hosted Dakota State Friday night in the Newman Flanagan Center and fell in straight sets to the Trojans.

"We did not play our best volleyball tonight and our own errors were costly," said head coach
Lindsey Weatherford. "We will need to clean up our game to be able to score more points against our next few opponents."

The Chargers stayed close to Trojans through the first half of set one, trailing 14-11. The Trojans opened up a 20-11 lead off a 6-0 run. The Chargers answered back as
Madilyn Wagaman held serve for six straight points to tie the score at 20-20. With a 23-22 lead back-to-back kills from Sydney Schell gave the Trojans set one 25-22. Set two saw four lead changes at the midway point, but a 6-0 Trojan run gave them momentum to close out a 25-14 set two win.

The Cliff found some success in set three with tallying a match high 13 kills in the set. A 4-0 run, capped off by a
Chloe Johnson kill brought the Cliff within one point (16-15). A Johnson kill followed by a Trojan error brought the score to 17-all. A kill from Maddie Polzin and a BC error closed out a Dakota State 25-21 win to complete the sweep.

Chloe Johnson had a game high 10 kills with a .280 hitting percentage.
Tyra Blue contributed eight kills.

Maureen Imrie dished out 15 assists and Wagaman added 10. Imrie totaled nine digs and Wagaman had two service aces.
Tannah Heath paced the Cliff with 10 digs and
Abbey Jones chipped in eight.

Hannah Viet and Maddie Polzin led the Trojans with nine kills apiece. Schell had a game high 18 digs and Madalyn Groft had 19 assists.

The Blue and Gold return to the Newman Flanagan Center tomorrow as they host Doane and Cottey College in a triangular. The Chargers play against the Tigers at 1:30 p.m. and match up with Cottey College at 5:30 p.m. for their Senior Day contest. Â
