The men's golf team competed in round one of the Buena Vista Fall Invite at Lake Creek Country Club in Storm Lake, IA on Friday, Oct 1.
The three-team field was led in scoring by Nebraska Wesleyan with a team total of 299, followed closely by the Chargers 301.
"Consistent play was the name of the game," said head coach
Ben Irlbeck. "We weren't able to get a practice round in, so for many of the guys it was their first look at the track."
Chargers were indeed consistent with
Gregorio Fernandez leading the way with 74. Fernandez will enter round two in second place individually.
Elijah Lamoureux and
Desmond Landin followed closely behind with 75s and are tied for third.
Mason Collins holds down solo fifth place with a 77, and
Davess Verdugo rounded out the top five scores with 78.
Playing as individuals were
Braxton Brockhaus with 80,
Gunnar Bussinger with 84, and
Hugo Perez Dorsey with 92.
"We played through some showers early in the afternoon, but scoring conditions were near perfect," followed up Irlbeck. "There's no reason we can't shave 10 strokes off the team score tomorrow with a little patience on the greens."
Round two of the Buena Vista Invite will tee off at 9 a.m. Saturday morning at Lake Creek.
