Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

BC holds Hastings scoreless, picks up 1-0 win

Another game, another shutout for the Briar Cliff women's soccer team

For the ninth time this season, the Briar Cliff women's soccer team held its opponent scoreless. With a 1-0 win at Hastings Wednesday evening, BC moves to 9-1-2 (9-1-1 GPAC) on the season and will host Morningside in the regular season finale Saturday at Faber Field. The winner of that contest will take home the GPAC title.

A free kick by Ariana Rodriguez in the 34th minute was the different for the Cliff. The junior fired a shot around the Hastings wall and just past Bronco goalkeeper Sarah Carpenter.

The Chargers dominated through the first half of action and were able to hold off the Broncos in the second 45 minutes.

"We played some of our best football of the year in the first half," said head coach Paul Cox. "We really popped it and were able to create opportunities for ourselves. We struggled for a moment in the second half but ultimately controlled the game throughout."

Rodriguez led the Charger offense with five shots in the contest, three of which were on frame. Flor Suarez added two shots on goal. The Charger defense did not allow a shot from Hastings' Jacqueline Gilbert, one of the GPAC's leading goal scorers.

Ruby Campa made five saves for Briar Cliff in 90 minutes and takes the win while Carpenter made six saves and takes the loss.

"I am delighted with how we've responded from Saturday's loss and now we look forward to competing for the league title this weekend," Cox added.

The Chargers look ahead to Saturday's contest and the opportunity to win the program's first GPAC title. The team will host Morningside (9-1-1 GPAC) at 1 p.m. at Faber Field. A victory for either side will win that team a conference title. A draw will result in a Regular Season Co-Champions.
